Arsenal is reportedly planning to try to make a signing in the rush -hour department – but only a deal once to appoint Andrea Berta if the new sports director of the club is sealed.
The Premier League side continues in conversations to hire the Italian after he had decided him as the permanent successor to Edu Gaspar, who left the club in November. Berta, 53, spent 12 years in Atletico Madrid and first took the role as technical director before he was appointed sports director in 2017.
He chose to leave the La Liga Giants in January and was reserved as a top objective for Arsenal, who filled Jason Ayto the role on Interim -based after the departure of the Brazilian last year. Although no deal has yet been closed, it has not stopped reporting that the North London side is already exciting movements on the transfer market.
A striker has long been like the missing piece of the Mikel Arteta team in their search for a Premier League title. And behind the back of seasonal injuries to Kai Havertz and Gabriel Jesus, this summer a no. 9 has been brought in the great importance for the Gunners to return to legitimate title conflicts.
Lille -striker Jonathan David – who is out of the contract in the summer – is on the radar of Arsenal, and the club is said to wait until Berta's arrival before making an official offer to the Canada International, according to Sky Sports. Their report states that London Rivals West Ham also made the 25-year-old an important target and already weigh a proposal worth £ 16 million (€ 20 million).
It is said of this reimbursement that it covers a committee, salary and bonuses, since David is a free agent at the end of the 2024/25 season. Both Arsenal and West Ham are free to talk to the player about a pre-contract, because he plays abroad in a competition.
The Gunners have not yet formalized their interest with their own proposal, but they are waiting to sort Berta's expected appointment, but it is said that an offer to David is expected in the coming weeks.
After being in the Ligue 1club since 2020, the striker teased his summer room when discussing his future and ambitions.
“Yes, I will be free at the end of the season,” he said when he spoke with our Mondial. “And as far as my future is concerned, I hope to grow, become a better player and play for the largest clubs in the world, if I can. But first of all I just want to have fun, never forgot that football is fun. I started playing football because I had fun.
“And although it has now become my job, you should not forget that every morning I wake up for football, for the pleasure of playing. Do you want clues about my future? You will all know, that's at the end of the season. I will not comment before that time.
“First of all, I want to finish well this season, the end looks exciting and I want to play well and help the team. And when the season is over, the decision is made and announced.”
David scored 105 goals in 220 games for the French outfit and has won the Ligue 1 title and the Trofée des Champions during his time at the club.
