Arsenal Sporting Director Andrea Berta is already hard at work prior to what is expected to be an important summer transfer window for Mikel Arteta and his team

Andrea Berta is said to have already had conversations with the Agent of Nico Williams, one of the primary transferpo goals from Arsenal, because the new sports director of the club will be working before the coming summer transfer window.

The Gunners officially confirmed the appointment of Berta on Sunday and the Italian, who was succeeded Edu in the post, was present for the 2-1 victory of Tuesday evening at Fulham. The former transfer manager of Atletico Madrid had been heavily connected to Arsenal for weeks prior to his official unveiling at the weekend.

Berta will work with Mikel Arteta this summer to strengthen a team that is painful in the vicinity of winning the Premier League title in successive seasons, with an almost -Miss on the cards this period.

A lot has been made of Arsenal's wish to sign a striker. But Williams, 22, is also a long-term objective for the Londoners, who expect a flurry of transfer activity prior to the 2025-26 campaign.

Reports in Spain have even suggested that Berta met the representatives of Williams and the winger has a buy-out clause of £ 51 million, but every deal will be made difficult through the Sky-High current contract of the Athletic Bilbao Star, which is worth more than £ 300,000 a week.

A movement for Williams was on the agenda for Arsenal last summer. The plans were then changed when it was communicated that the winner of the Euro 2024 wanted to stay in Spain for another year.

But the winger is ready to insist on a movement this summer, with a large number of clubs under the European elite, including the Gunners, which are expected to make a pitch for his services.

And Arteta made no secret of the fact that he expected a 'big summer' earlier this week. He said: “It will be a big one and we are very enthusiastic about it.

“The way we had planned the five first summers would be very big and they would have different objectives because the turnaround of players and the purpose of those windows would be different.

“But now when you go again, we want to increase the depth of the team, but we also want to increase the quality and skills we need to go to the next step.”
