Arsenal cult hero admits opening to returning to the Emirates in a coaching role

Santi Cazorla revealed he would consider a return to Arsenal as the 40-year-old nears the end of his contract in Spain.

He currently plays for Real Oviedo in the Spanish second division, but his current contract expires in the summer of 2025.

After a professional career spanning 21 years, retirement is not expected to be far away – and the Spaniard is already considering his future career options after hanging up his boots.

'Yes, why not? Arsenal is my home,” he said, after being asked if he would consider a return to the Emirates.

'I love the club and the people, so we'll see in the future.

'Don't know [what role I would have]. I would have to think about that, but something in football for sure, because that's what I like.”

Cazorla made 180 appearances for Arsenal between 2012 and 2018, winning two FA Cups and two FA Community Shields during that time.

His tenure at the club was spoiled by injuries in the latter stages. In his last two years he made only eleven appearances.

Speaking to MailSport in 2022, Cazorla had similarly revealed that he wants to be involved with the Gunners in some capacity after he retires.

“Of course I would like to come back,” he said. 'I have to wait and see whether the club thinks about me, whether I can help with something – as a coach or as a sporting director.'

During his years in North London, he forged a close bond with Mikel Arteta, who played for the club between 2011 and 2016. their children played together.

“One of the best friends I have in football,” Cazorla added of the current Arsenal manager.

“They helped my family so much, so I just want to say, Mikel, thank you.”
