Arsenal dealt injury blow as first-team star is ruled out of Champions League showdown with Real Madrid

An Arsenal star was excluded from the Champions League trip on Wednesday to Real Madrid.

De Gunners took a sensational 3-0 lead in the quarterfinals last week, thanks to two Declan Rice Free-Fick goals and a icing at the top of Mikel Merino.

The victory in the second stage would secure Arsenal's first performance in the semi -final of the Champions League since 2009 in their return to the competition after an eight -year interruption.

Arsenal will certainly be for their travels to the Spanish capital without a long -term absent absent Gabriel Jesus, Takehiro Tomiyasu, Gabriel, Riccardo Calafiori and Kai Havertz.

And now it is clear that the side of Mikel Arteta could also miss the veteran -midfielder Jorginho.

The Italian was replaced while holding his shoulders in the last stages of Arsenal's 1-1 draw with Brentford on Saturday.

Thomas Partey is also a doubt for the collision of Arsenal with Madrid after collecting a non -specific knock against Brentford.

The midfielder, who opened the score for the Gunners with a second half of a strike, was replaced at 69 minutes.

The 31-year-old is currently being assessed prior to Wednesday's game and Arsenal is hopeful that he will be in conflict.

“He (pareny) felt something, so we didn't want to take any risks,” said Mikel Arteta on Saturday.

When asked whether Partey will be fit for Wednesday, Arteta added: 'We don't know, I have not yet spoken to the doctors. So they will now check him and see how he is. '

In the light of the short -handed midfield of Arsenal, Arteta is likely to opt for a trio of Declan Rice, Martin Odegaard and Merino in the middle of the park.

The latter has often placed a shift for the Gunners lately, but can be assigned by Leandro Trossard and return to his natural role in central midfield to cover his wounded teammates.

In the meantime, Madrid will be without Eduardo Camavinga, who has picked up a late red card in the first stage. Also absent due to injuries are the defensive trio of Ferland Mendy, Dani Carvajal and Eder Militao.
