Arsenal is working on a deal for Bayer Leverkusen Center Back Piero Hincapie.
The Ecuador International has been on the radar of Arsenal for several months and has expressed the wish to leave the Bundesliga club in the midst of growing interest from Premier League parties.
Hincapie has a release clause of £ 52 million, but Arsenal is investigating ways to close a deal on lesser conditions.
The International Ecuador shares the same agent as Chelsea midfielder Moises Caicedo.
He was introduced to the Stamford Bridge Club when Enzo Maresca expressed concern about having suitable coverage, but Chelsea moved to say that they would not follow a deal.
Tottenham, Newcastle and Liverpool had also looked at hincapie, although Leverkusen said that he was not for sale for slightly less than his release clause, because they have already lost too many important players this summer with Liverpool's new additions Florian Wirtz and Jeremie FriPrimpin among them.
