Arsenal fans are accused of showing a lack of respect for the pope after they seemed to interrupt the silence of the minute before their semi-final clash of the Champions League with PSG.
Pope Franciscus died last week at the age of 88 after 12 years in the Vatican, and UEFA then confirmed that a minute of silence will be held for every European match this week.
The Arsenal players seemed to forget the tribute, because they were still in their team Huddle when PSG gathered around the center circle prior to the kick -off.
The referee then blew his whistle to indicate the beginning of the silence, but whistles and some songs could be heard around the emirates.
This was noticed by some users of social media, who had the behavior of the home fans.
'Arsenal fans with the lack of respect cannot even be quiet to express respect for the late Pope,' posted on X.
“Vaart observed silence for the pope by Arsenal there,” added another X user.
One supporter even suggested that the Emirates -in addition to a lack of maturity, had shown and behaved like children.
'Many wolf whistles during the moments of silence for the late pope. Nice from Arsenal to let the U12s in, “they wrote.
As soon as the silence of the minute was completed, Arsenal started a nervy of their first semifinal of the Champions League since 2009.
With former manager Arsene Wenger from the stands, the Gunners fell behind within four minutes when Ousmane Dembele shot home from the edge of the area.
