Arsenal fans think they know what Zubimendi’s transfer means for two players

Arsenal fans think they have discovered what Martin Zubmendi's arrival at the end of the season will mean.

The Real Sociedad midfielder will join Mikel Arteta's side this summer, with sources indicating a £51million deal is close to being completed.

The Gunners are keen for the midfielder to join immediately, but Sociedad have insisted Zubimendi will stay until the end of the season.

Following the exclusive news from Mail Sport, Arsenal fans took to social media to claim that the Spaniard's arrival means Thomas Partey and Jorginho will leave.

Both Partey and Jorginho's have six months left on their respective contracts, with the latter linked with a move to Brazil this month.

One fan wrote on X: 'Huge news! With Partey and Jorginho gone, strengthening the midfield was necessary, and getting a player who can sit and let Rice move around makes it even better. Now that we have a CAM like Wirtz/Xavi, the rebuilding of the midfield is complete.”

A second said: 'Wow!, totally unexpected, fantastic signing, which definitely means goodbye to Partey, Jorginho. Zubimendi would be a great signing, let's focus on the signings too!'

A third added: 'Partey time over + Jorginho contract expiration. Makes sense.'

No final decision has yet been made on possible contract offers to Jorginho or Partey.

Zubimendi opted to remain in Spain last summer despite varying interest from Arsenal and Liverpool, although it is understood the Gunners did not make a formal bid for the player last summer.

There was also interest in Manchester City's Zubimendi following Rodri's season-ending injury.

Spanish star Zubimendi is said to have a €60 million release clause, which Arsenal will formally trigger.

Zubimendi, 25, is regarded as one of the leading midfield talents in European football and is a key player for Spain.

The strike will be a major coup for Arsenal and Arteta given the player's growing reputation and interest from top clubs.

Liverpool came close to signing Zubimendi for £52million last summer before a dramatic turnaround saw the 25-year-old midfielder stay at the LaLiga club.

The Reds were keen to strengthen their squad with a number 6 ahead of Arne Slot's debut season at Anfield, before Zubimendi ultimately decided to stay.

Slot, who is still fighting for silverware on all four fronts this season, instead gave Ryan Gravenberch the chance to anchor Liverpool's midfield – a decision that has proven fruitful so far.
