Arsenal fear Gabriel Jesus is out for the rest of the SEASON

Arsenal striker Gabriel Jesus is set to face a lengthy layoff after suffering a serious knee injury in the FA Cup defeat to Manchester United.

The Brazilian was forced off the field on a stretcher after colliding with Bruno Fernandes towards the end of the first half of the Gunners' third-round tie.

Jesus will undergo further tests on Tuesday to determine the severity of the injury, but there are already fears he has suffered cartilage or ligament damage to his knee.

He is likely to miss the rest of the season due to another injury to Mikel Arteta, who is already without talisman Bukayo Saka.

“Big concerns, that's my feeling,” Arteta said when asked about the striker's injury after Sunday's defeat at the Emirates.

'He had to get on a stretcher in a lot of pain, touching his knee. It doesn't look good. I think it's the other one [and not the knee he injured at the 2022 World Cup].

“But the worrying factor is more the feeling he had when he had to come off, and the pain he was in.”

Jesus' injury leaves Arsenal with just one fit striker, while Kai Havertz will continue to play a key role in the side.

The German forward squandered a number of golden opportunities in the defeat to United to continue Arsenal's recent struggles in front of goal.

Arteta admitted last week that Arsenal could make moves in the transfer market this month, but will only sign players who can 'have an immediate impact'.

'Someone who can have an impact on the team. Taking bodies doesn't help at all,” the Gunners boss said in January about what he is looking for.

'It's about someone who can have an immediate impact on performance and who can bring something that we don't have. In this market it is very, very difficult to achieve this.

“The circumstances have changed because we have had some injuries to some big players. There is always an opportunity if we believe it is someone who will make us much better.”
