The name of the real Sociedad star Martin Zubimendi continues to be connected to the top clubs in Europe, with a growing feeling that this may be the summer that he is being persuaded to leave his beloved Donostia-San Sebastian. Arsenal is tipped as favorites to make that signing, while they try to reunite Zubimendi with colleague Basques Mikel Arteta and Mikel Merino.
The report that comes from England is that Zubimendi is close to a foregone dealer for Arsenal, where the Gunners are sure to get their husbands. With regard to the transfer costs, whoever wants him will have to pay his release clause of € 60 million, so it will amount to a case of convincing the player.
In Spain, however, frequent reports continue to link a link to a move to Real Madrid, who is said to come 'poet and poet' at a deal. Los Blancos will be looking for a midfielder in the summer and he can be the perfect fit. The prospect to compete with Real Madrid for each player is a discouraging, but David Ornstein has given Arsenal reason to relax and says he is not aware of conversations between the two.
“Without wanting to discredit others, I have not heard this personally. Arsenal expects Zubimendi to join Real Sociedad in the summer,” Ornstein told the Athletic.
Ornstein further explains that they are working on the assumption of his arrival in the summer – after the arrival of Andrea Berta as the new sports director at the Emirates, light could be cast on it.
If Real Madrid has designs on Zubimendi, they will not be discouraged by the progress of Arsenal. In particular, it is thought that if Xabi Alonso, the youth idol of Zubimendi, would move to the Santiago Bernabeu as a manager, that could be too tempting for the Basque midfielder to reject.
