Arsenal hit with DOUBLE transfer blow as Gyokeres ‘has heart set’ on MUN move

Arsenal's attempts to sign a new striker have suffered a huge blow after it emerged that Viktor Gyokeres has set his sights on a move to Manchester United.

The striker fired a shot at the Gunners on Tuesday night and saw his trademark celebration mocked by Arsenal star Gabriel as the north London side triumphed 5-1 away from home. Although Mikel Arteta's side had few problems in front of goal during the Champions League match, they have long been linked with signing a new goalscoring star, with Kai Havertz currently their main option to take the lead .

However, it doesn't seem like Arsenal need to worry about leaving a positive impression on the Sweden international. The 26-year-old would instead be keen to form a partnership with former manager Ruben Amorim at Old Trafford.

Reports indicate that Gyokeres has his sights set on reuniting with Amorim, although a deal was reportedly struck to prevent this from happening in January. The attacker scored 66 goals in 68 games under the 39-year-old Portuguese coach

While Amorim is still getting used to his new surroundings, Gyokeres has not made his desire publicly clear.

“It's not something I think about, nor something I attach any importance to. It's just rumors, nothing concrete,” he told Swedish newspaper Fotbollskanaal. “Of course I want to finish the season at Sporting, I'm enjoying it there. I don't feel stressed about making a change in the future. We'll see when the time comes.”

Gyokere's favored destination has also presented Arsenal with a second problem. Alexander Isak is on the Gunners' list of targets and they are monitoring his current situation at Newcastle.

The Premier League star, who is under contract at St James' Park until 2028, has emerged as Barcelona's top target, with the Catalan club forced to keep tabs on his international teammate Gyokeres. The La Liga giants are planning to make a big bid for the Magpies top flight this summer.

That will mean Arsenal face more competition if they decide to make a move. Any future bid from the Gunners will await approval from a new sporting director after Edu stepped down from his role earlier this month.

Speculation over Isak's position has only increased following Newcastle's profit and sustainability problems in the last transfer window. The club intends to prevent him from finding himself in the same situation again and that may have played a role in the failure to make a new contract offer for the 25-year-old.

“That's a little more complex situation,” Howe said of Isak's contract in October. “In terms of contracts, I am not involved in those discussions on a daily basis. With Alex, he has a long contract with the football club anyway and we have to be very careful with our expenditure due to profit and sustainability rules (PSR). It is not a clear situation.”
