Arsenal is planning to sign a new keeper this summer, and it is their intention to sign a player they missed 12 months earlier – that is Joan Garcia van Espanyol.
Last summer Arsenal was also on the market for a goalkeeper because they wanted to replace the outgoing Aaron Ramsdale. They took a step before Garcia late in the transfer window and at that time Espanyol had made it clear that a deal would only be possible if the 23-year-old release clause was paid. As such, the operation is not explained, although that did not fill in the spirits of the Premier League side.
In recent months, Arsenal has re -activated their interest in Garcia, which they consider as the ideal candidate to compete with David Raya for the starting point in the side of Mikel Arteta. And while Atletico Madrid is in the race, it is assumed that the North -London club is favorites to secure the signature of one of La Liga's striking keepers this season.
According to reports in England (via ED), Arsenal has had conversations with Garcia and his representatives in recent weeks. Their idea is to take a step in the summer, but they want to agree with a deal with Espanyol that would be lower than the release clause of the player € 25 million.
If Espanyol is banned, Garcia would be available for considerably cheaper according to a relegation release clause that is believed to be worth it in the region of € 15 million. At this stage, loose pericos are strong candidates to prevent a return to the Segunda, so their hope will be to bring more than this from the inevitable summer sale of their goalkeeper.
It is still to be seen where Garcia starts at the start of the following season, although it is unlikely that it is in the RCDE stadium. Arsenal now looks good, but there is still a long way to go.
