Arsenal is supposed to consider former Atletico Madrid director Andrea Berta as their leader to take over from Edu at the Emirates, according to reports.
Mail Sport exclusively revealed that the Brazilian would leave the Noord -London club in November, after he had rejected a lucrative new deal to extend his term of office at Arsenal.
Edu was hired in 2019 as the first technical director of the club for his promotion to sports director, and was played a role, alongside manager Mikel Arteta, when building on the side candidates for several seasons.
During the announcement of his shock room, it was revealed that the director will join Nottingham Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis to collaborate with his network of clubs, including Greek Big Beasts Olympiacos.
Arsenal promoted Edu's no. 2, Jason Ayto, to interim director after the start of the garden house leave of the former Gunners -midfielder, but it was thought that a number of candidates are considering making the decision on a permanent basis.
Among them was reportedly another former Arsenal: Tomas Rosicky, who is currently playing in the same role at Sparta Prague.
But according to Fabrizio Romano, Berta's candidacy was noticed for the arsenal hierarchy, where the Italian is currently in advanced conversations with the club – despite the fact that they have not yet signed an agreement with them.
Gunners -fans are likely to be reassured from his successful term of office at Atletico, where Berta will become a member of the LaLiga side in 2017.
Berta played an important role in bringing a number of top talents to the Spanish capital, including Antoine Griezmann, Rodri and Jan Oblank.
The 53-year-old is also free to take on the role after he has left the club after he has brought in a series of striking new recruits such as Julian Alvarez and Conor Gallagher.
Names that are thought to form the shortlist of the club next to Berta are supposed to include Monaco CEO Thiago Scuro, and former man United sports director than Ashworth, who was relieved in Old Trafford after only five months.
Another candidate who is considered to be Sociedad -sports director Roberto Oblas, who will leave his role at La Real at the end of the season, and is considered the preferred candidate of Arteta for the position.
Replacing EDU will not be an easy task after the Brazilian had had a strong impact in the past five years, both in terms of team arrival and departure.
The 46-year-old also supported Arteta with the relocation of problematic squadron players, such as Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, after he had terminated his contract with the Gunners.
Speaking after his announcement last year, Edu shared an emotional message on the website of the club in which it was pronounced why it was time to resign.
He said: “This was an incredibly difficult decision to make. Arsenal has given me the opportunity to work with so many great people and the chance to be part of something so special in the history of the club.
'It has been a special trip and I thank Stan, Josh, Tim and Lord Harris for the support they have given me.
'I enjoyed working with so many great colleagues in our men's, women's and academy teams, especially Mikel, who has become a good friend.
'Now it's time to take on another challenge. Arsenal will always stay in my heart. I only wish the club and its supporters good things and the very best. '
