Arsenal make final decision on Ollie Watkins summer transfer after shock £40m bid

Ollie Watkins was a surprise objective for Arsenal in January, but the Aston Villa striker is not expected to be directed again by the Londoners this summer

Arsenal is preparing for a busy summer transfer window with a new striker at the top of the Mikel Arteta wish list. But there are apparently no plans to regain their interest in Ollie Watkins after their failed January -dive for the Aston Villa star.

Watkins, 29, emerged as a surprise objective for the Gunners in the winter transfer window. They saw an offer of £ 40 million rejected for the attacker of England, however, with Villa reluctant to sell both him and Jhon Duran, who eventually moved to the Saudi-Pro League in a deal with a big money.

With Arsenal who needed reinforcements, there had been speculation that they would make a new attempt to lure Watkins – a fan of a boy's rifle – to the Emirates. But that may not be the case.

According to Sky Sports, Arsenal has set their sights on a number of younger goals, with their interest in Watkins now 'cooled'.

A number of top no. 9s are already connected to Arsenal for the summer, including Benjamin Sesko. The RB Leipzig -striker was a top goal last year, only for the player to continue and sign a new contract with his current club.

He and Sporting Lisbon's Viktor Gyokeres are two arsenal goals that are expected to be moving in the transfer window. Alexander Isak is also admired, but it is unlikely that the Newcastle will leave.

In addition to adding a new NR .9 to the team, Arsenal is also expected to list their interest in the athletic Bilbao wing player, Nico Williams. The 22-year-old is, just like Sesko, a long-term target and has been exploring for more than two years.

Earlier this week, reports in Spain claimed that the new sports director of Arsenal, Andrea Berta, has already held conversations with the representatives of the player prior to a potential summer movement. The winners of the Euro 2024 have other controversial admirers and will not be short for lovers if he chooses to pursue a movement in the summer.

Martin Zubimendi, the former goal of Liverpool, is another player on the Arsenal wish list. It is understood that a deal worth £ 51 million to bring the playmaker to North Londs in an advanced stage.
