Arsenal midfielder prioritising Barcelona move this summer

Barcelona has made it a habit of bringing in free agents in recent summers, such as Ilkay Gundogan, Franck Kession and Andreas Christensen have all arrived from the Premier League in recent years. Arsenal -midfielder Thomas Partey hopes to be the next one.

Despite the start of 36 of the 43 games that Arsenal has played this season so far, Partey does not look like he will get a new deal at the Emirates this season. The 31-year-old is in any case from the contract this summer, so that he can have conversations and sign a new deal with other clubs, in the last six months of his current contract.

Partey evaluates his options, with Martin Odegaard and Declan Rice in front of him in the pecking order, while a return to his natural position for Mikel Merino Partey would also further relegate. The Ghanaian International has occasionally played on the right for Takehiro Tomiyasu on the right, but is ready to leave for more playing time.

Barcelona would be his top choice for a movement in the summer, says MD. The Blaugrana have shown interest in the past, and Pedey, who came through in Atletico Madrid, would be interested in a move back to La Liga. The Catalan daily also notes that Pedey does not belong to their plans, with Frenkie de Jong who would apparently continue to. Marc Casado and Marc Bernal also mean that the position is well covered, and only a departure for the Dutchman, or an unlikely choice of Pardeny as a right-wing alternative to Jules Kounde would open their doors for him.

This checks last month with reports and claims that Barcelona has decided a move for Pedey. Although he offers a more impressive physical presence in midfield, Barcelona has depth in midfield. Were Barcelona to try to bring in an alternative to Kounde, it would be strange if they didn't go to a specialized full-back instead.
