Arsenal has kept an eye on both in the middle of the week with Real Madrid and could not pick up three points in the Premier League to give their momentum in Europe.
The Gunners took place on 1-1 draw against Everton in Goodison Park in, which for some players more a fitness test for the Champions League seemed something different.
Leandro Trossard opened the score with a fired finish in the bottom corner that Jordan Pickford gave no chance.
But a defensive error from the young Myles Lewis-Skelly in the second half gave the Toffees a penalty sent by Iliman Ndiaye.
Arsenal is now 11 points behind Liverpool and the title race is dead and buried, but they will hope they can save their own lives, and season, on Tuesday evening when Los Blancos visits the North London.
Here is how Sunssport's Joshua Hall rated the performance of every Arsenal player …
David Raya – 5
Made a rare mistake at the start of the second half when he tried to use his feet on the edge of the box.
Fortunately for him he was saved by his defenders.
Made a few good saves, but the full wrong way was driven by the punishment of Iliman Ndiaye.

Myles Lewis -Skelly – 4
The newly promoted England international looks like an experienced Pro 99 percent of the time, much wiser than his age of 18.
But for that one percent he just seems to be completely losing his mind and showing that he is not as experienced when you first thought.
The teenager struggled with Jack Harrison on the edge of the box and brought down the winger to give Ndiaye the chance to level the scores of the place.
There will be a lot of conversation whether the penalty was soft or not, but the point is that Lewis-Skell gave the referee another decision.
Tried to make up for his mistakes with a sensational solo run from deep in his own half until he was polluted on the edge of the Everton box. Declan Rice poked Pickford's hands with the resulting free kick.
Jakub Kiwior – 8
There was a lot of pressure on the Polish center half to perform in only his third Premier League start of the season, given the chance of his involvement against Real Madrid on Tuesday.
He often comes in for criticism, but this was a solid audition from the defender.
It was nothing spectacular, but Kiwior certainly looked at the back, including an important block to prevent Iliman Ndiaye from firing a thunderous effort in the back of the net in the first half.
While he played a great lofted ball from his own half to Leandro Trossard late in the first half, he set the Belgian a golden chance to hit Jordan Pickford directly.
Not really his task, but he made a really bad cross that cleaned up every player in the red when the gunners had sewn really fluent football in the first half.
William Saliba – 7
Stayed so calm when he was summoned and sweeps mistakes from Ben White and Jorginho when needed.
You would be honest to make the assessment that Gabriel Magalhaes was better from the Arsenal Center backs last season.
But in the absence of his Brazilian counterpart, Saliba was insured and confident in his defensive actions.
A sign of good things for those Real Madrid collisions.
Ben White – 7
It was a first Premier League start for White since November 10, and a welcome appearance for an Arsenal team soaked by injuries prior to one of the largest European nights in the modern history of the club.
That return was characterized by a monster -tail on Tim Ioonbunam who got a roar from the road of the road in Goodison by his side.
Looked rusty when he was caught on the ball in his own box and Beto got a chance, but had Saliba to clean up the danger.
A few solid minutes in the tank for the right back before he was replaced by Jurrien Timber.
Jorginho – 4
The Italian wore the bracelet from the start with Odegaard rested on the couch and Gabriel Magalhaes until the end of the season.
But it was not exactly the performance of a captain.
Much of the game sometimes seemed to pass him and he was close to a disastrous error when he tried to mess with the ball at the back in the 16th minute and gave an opportunity to Everton.
Declan Rice – 7
Consistent dangerous crosses of corners and fast pass in midfield helped rice to tap Arsenal.
While an exceptional interception helped when starting a counter in the first half, but Trossard gave up the ball in the 24th minute.
Sometimes he struggles around him without creativity, but he rarely does a bad performance.
Mikel Merino – 6
Play in midfield for the first time since he started his role in the Make-Shift Center-Forward in Leicester in February.
Looked good enough on the ball, but there was no real creativity to cut Everton open when Arsenal had to get a goal in the second half.
The Spaniard took a slap on the head after a collision of heads with Jake O'Brien, as a result of which Arteta may cause even more injury problems.
Ethan Nwaneri – 5
I didn't see much of the ball at all and struggled to fight Everton's physical defense when he got hold of it.
He has often been a clear spark for the Gunners this season, but it is fine not to be one of the best players on the field every time you play at the age of 18.
Mikel Arteta exchanged him while giving Bukayo Saka some minutes before Real Madrid.
Raheem Sterling – 6
Constantly encountering Everton defenders and not knowing how he can pass a blue shirt that stood in the way.
However, he was alert to the situation to pick up the loose ball and start a counterattack that led to Arsenal's goal.
The loan of Chelsea held the ball very well to put on the Everton defenders before he loaded him to Trossard for his fifth assist in an Arsenal shirt.
Despite that involvement, he certainly did not look like a player on which Mikel Arteta wants to trust unless it is necessary.
Leandro Trossard – 8
Fought hard with the towering back line of Everton while acting as a center-forward for the Gunners.
Took care of it three times in the first half and made the most out of one of those opportunities.
An excellent finish on his weaker left boot shot in the bottom corner of Pickford's goal to make Arsenal forward.
The Belgian offers something completely different in the future to Merino, but there is a clear lack of physical presence at the top when he plays.
Subs
Gabriel Martinelli (for Sterling, 46min) – 6
When he starts working and starts running to his husband, he causes total damage.
Unfortunately, he just seems to be missing the end product to convert all that threat into something tangible.
Bukayo Saka (for Nwaneri, 46min) – 5
I was not really able to influence the game, even though it had a full half of action to try this.
Perhaps the winger pulled on Tuesday with an eye on his foot of the gas.
Jurrien Timber (for White, 61min) – 5
Was not asked to do a lot, but it didn't offer much.
Another change that felt more like it was about minutes in the tank for Madrid than something else.
Martin Odegaard (for Jorginho, 71min) – 5
Not many players can immediately influence a game when they come from the bank and only have 19 minutes to find a goal.
But Odegaard is supposed to be the man who can find the key to opposition distribution, and this season he did so little.
Kieran Tierney (for Lewis -Skelly, 75min) – 6
Beautiful drilled pass to Odegaard late in the second half to try to grab three points.
Was not long enough to have much more impact.
