Arsenal reach agreement with former Atletico Madrid sporting director

Arsenal has been looking for a new sports director in recent weeks, and it now seems that their search has ended. In the coming days it is expected that they will complete an agreement with Andrea Berta.

Berta, who has been without a club since leaving Atletico Madrid in January, has reached an agreement to take over the position that has remained vacant by Edu, the previous sports director of Arsenal. This has been reported by the athletics, who say that the Italian has defeated several other names to secure the job.

Berta is at the back of an 11-year-old spell at Atleti, which he first affiliated as technical director in 2013. Four years later he was elevated to the position of sports director, which he held until his departure at the beginning of 2025.

The transfer activities of Berta in Atleti were announced on a large scale, but in the last 12 months his relationship with the club broke after Carlos Bucero was appointed as director of football activities at Los Colchoneros, and he gradually took over several roles that Berta had earlier.

His contract would expire at the end of the season, but in January an agreement was reached for him to leave the Metropolitano for six months. And now two months after he became a free agent, he will be appointed as the new sports director of Arsenal, a position he gave priority to others throughout Europe.

It will be interesting to see how Berta continues at Arsenal, but given his record at Atleti there is certainly a considerable amount of excitement. Nevertheless, the pressure will be on him from the first day to give signing sessions that can help the Gunners secure their first Premier League title since the 2003-04 season.
