Arsenal Defender Gabriel Magalhaes has talked about Viktor Gyokeres while the club is trying to eliminate the last details of the deal to sign the Sporting Lisbon striker
Gabriel Magalhaes has sung the praise of Viktor Gyokeres while Arsenal keeps trying to close a deal with Sporting Lisbon for the wanted striker.
Gyokeres, 27, is the no. 9 Arsenal who wants to strengthen their team for the 2025-26 campaign. Until now, however, they have not reached an agreement with Sporting, who wants the add -on -our in every deal – a total of £ 63.6 million – to be easily feasible.
The Sweden International was frustrated by the position of Sporting, especially because he thought there was an agreement to leave for a smaller sum this summer.
And while speculation and further conversations keep messing around in the background, Gabriel was asked to face the Gyokeres judgment after last year with the Sporting Star in the Champions League.
The defender of Brazil said to BBC Sport: “We all know that he is a great player, but he is a sports player, not an arsenal player.
“Playing against him last year was a challenge. He is great and had a great season. It is something I can't talk about now about the celebration.”
Reports in Portugal that claim that Manchester United was close to the Gazumpeping of Arsenal at a deal for Gyokees on Sunday led briefly in panic among fans before they were crushed.
It was hoped that Gyokeres would be signed on time to join Arsenal during their pre-season tour through Asia. But an impasse about the structure of the £ 8.6 million in add-ons that sport will receive, has sustained those plans.
Although a deal for Gyokeres is not yet over the line, Arsenal Kepa Arrizabalaga, Martin Zubimendi, Christian Norgaard and Noni Madueke has signed, with the young Valencia defender, Crithian Mosquera, ready to participate.
Speaking about the summer company of Arsenal so far, Gabriel added: “I think the players who have come will help us a lot. The club does what is best for the players and the manager. They definitely do their best to bring the best players who can help us, but we have to concentrate on what we can do on the field.
“The players who are here do that. We are strong and we are getting stronger with these new players.
“Absolutely, it fascinates me. We want the best players. To be in the dispute for titles, you must have the best players.”
