Arsenal star Riccardo Calafiori ‘leaves Italy camp after suffering knee injury’

It is thought that Riccardo Calafiori has returned to Arsenal after having contracted a knee injury while he has international duty with Italy.

The defender of Gunners landed awkwardly on his left knee after the slaughter in a stopping time during the 2-1 Nations League quart final first leg suspension through Germany on Thursday.

After further assessment it was reported that he will not be available on Sunday for the return match in Dortmund, and he left the National Team Camp.

According to Italian reporter Gianluca di Marzio, the Italian employees believe that Calafiori suffered between degrees one and two collateral ligament damage to his knee, which could have seen him offside for 2-3 weeks.

This would mean that he is confronted with a race by the time to be fit for Arsenal's Champions League quarterfinals confrontation with Real Madrid.

The first stage at the Emirates takes place on April 8, before the men of Mikel Arteta play on the Bernabeu eight days later.

Calafiori has already spent four separate spells on the sidelines this season because of beating.

The issue of his left knee is particularly sensitive after a devastating injury when he was 16 in Roma, where he tore all his ligaments in that knee and feared that he would struggle to even walk.

His very first tattoo – 'never give up' – grabs back to that period of his life.

Arsenal will hope that the setback of Calafiori is only a small one, where Arteta has to make all the head without a number of first team stars.

Kai Havertz, Gabriel Jesus and Takehiro Tomiyasu are all excluded for the rest of the season, while Raheem Sterling is suspended for the first stage against Real.

Bukayo Saka focuses on a return for the collision with the Spanish giants, but he has not played since December after he had collected a serious hamstring injury in a 5-1 victory over Crystal Palace.
