Arsenal suffer injury blow as Ben White misses Brentford clash just four days

Arsenal has been given a new injury period prior to their Champions League Quarte final second stage against Real Madrid, with Ben White omitted from the team for Saturday's Premier League collision with Brentford.

White, 27, was a surprising omission of Mikel Arteta's Matchday 20, in which the Arsenal boss confirmed that the defender “felt something again after training yesterday” and was not risked.

It is unclear whether the problem is related to the knee injury that he held for 25 games earlier this season for 25 games.

The former Brighton man returned to full training in February after the knee operation and could be seen in six of the last nine games of Arsenal prior to Saturday's game in the Emirates.

His most recent appearance came in the midweek when he was introduced as an 89th minute replacement in Arsenal's emphatic 3-0 win over Madrid.

Arteta is now confronted with a nervous waiting to see if White can recover on time for the return bone in the Santiago Bernabeu on Wednesday, where Arsenal will strive to protect their benefits from three goals and book a place in the semi -final.

The absence of White was exacerbated by the unavailability of Jurrien Timber.

That forced Arteta to implement midfielder Thomas Partey, right back against Brentford – an improvised solution that may not be sufficient against the threat of Vinicius Junior in Madrid.

Arteta spoke on Saturday on Saturday: 'Ben White could not be in the team because he felt something again yesterday after training, so that limits the solutions that we have because Jurrien was not ready to start the game either.

“Other players also played many minutes and other players deserve to play minutes to help the team.”
