Arsenal target Matheus Cunha forced into embarrassing climbdown on Wolves comments

Matheus Cunha suffered from Wolves fans after he stated in an interview that he wants to leave the club only two months after signing a new contract in the midst of a move to Arsenal

Matheus Cunha was forced in an embarrassing climbingdown after the recoil that followed comments about international duty about taking 'the next step' in his career. Wolves' Schipper – who is currently in the middle of a suspension of four games after a resignation in Bournemouth in the FA Cup – gave an interview when he was with Brazil.

He was quoted as saying: “We are almost to reach our goal (from staying up). But I made it clear that I have to take the next step. I want to fight for titles for big things. I have potential.” This raged the support of Wolves, and it did not go down well at the Black Country Club, which gave him only a wage increase and a new deal that lasted a few months ago until 2029.

Cunha was rejected twice this season – On both occasions, the striker was lucky to escape from more censorship. Once, when he struck the glasses of a member of the security personnel of Ipswich and the second time for his actions at the Vitality Stadium.

However, he used his social media account to clarify the situation for the fans of Wolves prior to the visit of the Hammers. He said: “I came to talk about the sound about my name. I don't think people have the right interpretation.

“The point was about wolves to show everyone how happy I am to play here, to play for this team and these teammates, and to give back all the love they give me. Like ambitious players, we want to play for something more. To place this club on a different level and I and my teammates will give us all to achieve this goal.

His Klimdown came after he told the Guardian: “I had many offers (to leave in January), but I would not feel good if I had done it. Some things you can't control, but I could not leave the club in the middle of the season, in a difficult situation, in the relegation zone.”

One of the offers he received in January was reportedly from Arsenal. The Gunners have also just appointed Andrea Berta, the sports director who signed Cunha for Atletico Madrid in 2021.

The 25 -year -old then entered loan on loan the following season and the Premier League club has activated their £ 44 million option to buy it in the summer of 2023. Cunha said after signing his new contract – which is said to contain a release clause of £ 62.5 million – in January: “Of course there was a lot of noise around what Mathheu would do.

“I used my heart to make this decision, more than whatever. It was my passion. I love being here. I feel so good here, with the love that the fans give to me and my family. I always go to the field and try to give it back. Everyone wants something more for their career, but I think this is the moment to keep fighting and showing.”
