Arsenal told Paul Pogba transfer ‘would benefit everyone’ as Man Utd stance emerges
Former Arsenal star Bacary Sagna believes his old team should sign Paul Pogba once he completes his ban from football. He says coming to the Emirates would “benefit everyone”.
Pogba has not played a competitive match since August 2023 and was handed a four-year ban later that year after testing positive for a banned substance, after which his contract was terminated by Juventus.
But the Frenchman saw his doping ban reduced to 18 months after an appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport, meaning he can return in March 2025.
Sagna – who played with Pogba for the French national team – believes Arsenal should view the ex-Manchester United star as an option for a short-term contract.
He told Megadice: “I have always said that Paul Pogba would be a good signing for Arsenal. I believe he could be an asset for the club. With his creativity it would benefit everyone if he had a short-term contract. That would be good.” help Paul get back into football and get him back to full fitness and quality.”
At his peak, Pogba was regarded as one of the world's best midfielders. He joined Manchester United for £89 million in 2016 and won the World Cup in 2018. However, he suffered from injuries and inconsistencies, which previously led to a lot of criticism from fans and experts. He left Old Trafford and joined Juventus in 2022.
There were suggestions he could return to Old Trafford for a third time, although these have now been dismissed as he looks for his next employers.
After his suspension was shortened, Pogba said: “I'm still the same player, but with a different hunger,” he said. “I'm more motivated. I'm hungrier. I'll appreciate the game more than before after it was taken away from me.” I realized how important it was to me. I got a taste of what life is like after a career.”
Although Pogba could start training with a club in January, it is unlikely that any club would want to sign Pogba until next season as they would not be able to use him until March – and he would also miss match fitness.
Sagna – who made 284 appearances for the Gunners between 2007 and 2014 – was also asked about his top signing for Arsenal if he was in charge and named Sporting Lisbon striker Viktor Gyokeres.
Gyokeres has become one of the most sought-after strikers in football after scoring 66 goals in the past two seasons, earning him links to Manchester United, while Sagna has remained enthusiastic about his performances.
“I would like to see Arsenal sign Viktor Gyökeres, the Swedish striker who plays for Sporting Lisbon,” said Sagna. “He's great, honestly. I didn't know much about his personality, but after watching him play. Wow! I think he's great.”
