Arsenal will be looking for a new striker and Wolves star Matheus Cunha this summer has been associated with a move to the Emirates, especially after he publicly admitted that he was looking for a new challenge.
Wolves Forward Matheus Cunha can be the first Arsenal signing among the new sports director Andrea Berta, according to former Gunner Jeremie Aliadiere. Arsenal announced that Berta would take on the important role after four months of searching for Edu's replacement.
The Italian will be a focus figure this summer, while Arsenal is starting to look for host class signing sessions that can take them to the next level and eventually break their Premier League title drought.
Berta is likely to pursue movements for a new left wing player and midfielder, but a striker is highest on his priority list after the team had been left without a recognized No. 9 after a huge injury crisis.
Arsenal was connected to a large number of new strikers in January, including Alexander Isak and Ollie Watkins – on whom they have made a late bid – but now will put their attention to break one in the summer.
Aliadiere, who played 51 games for the Gunners, believes that Berta could dive for Cunha after developing a relationship with him when the couple was in Atletico Madrid.
He said to Aceodds: “Berta knows Cunha of their time in Atletico Madrid and it can be a deal that continues.
“He has a great season in a team that has difficulty fighting relegation. You show how good he is and how quickly he was adapted to the Premier League. He could also be a good signature.”
Cunha has scored 13 Premier League goals for Wolves and helped the club to stay away from the threat of relegation. There was speculation that he could leave in January before he wrote a new extension until 2028.
However, it is said of that new deal that it contains a release clause with which he can leave Molineux this summer for £ 62.5 million, such as Liverpool and Arsenal on alert.
According to the BBC, the release clause can only be activated by interested clubs at the end of the season and Wolves should give a significant profit on a player they signed for £ 35 million in 2023.
Cunha himself has already spoken to an exit after he recently claimed that he wanted a new challenge with a team that could fight titles.
“I had many offers (to leave in January), but I would not feel good if I had done it,” he said. “Some things you can't control, but I couldn't leave the club in the middle of the season, in a difficult situation, in the relegation zone. Now we are close to achieving our goal [of staying up]. But I made it clear that I have to take the next step. I want to fight for titles, for great things. I have potential. “
