Arsenal transfer news: Arteta urged to sign Rashford as Gunners eye France star

Arsenal still have two weeks to go before they can sign players again and Mikel Arteta will be keeping an eye on a pair of deals that could take his team closer to Liverpool and Chelsea in contention for the Premier League title.

The Gunners have dropped valuable points in the title race after back-to-back league draws against Fulham and Everton and they now sit six points behind leaders Liverpool, who have a game in hand.

Arsenal's lack of firepower this season and the need for a reliable striker who can provide goals has been highlighted numerous times and Arteta will be hoping the club backs him in the market.

As we approach the end of 2024 and the Christmas period, Mirror Football has taken a look at the biggest Arsenal transfer stories doing the rounds.

Sagna urges Arteta to sign Rashford

With Marcus Rashford seemingly up for grabs in January, it looks like there will be a battle for his signature if Manchester United agree to let him go.

Rashford dropped a bombshell in an interview with Henry Winter, claiming he wanted to leave United to take up a new challenge. Now speculation will increase as to which new club he could join.

Arsenal are one of the candidates the club have put forward to bid for Rashford and Bacary Sagna believes he would be a good fit for the Emirates.

The ex-Arsenal right-back said: “I would love to see Marcus Rashford at Arsenal. I think if you added Rashford to Arsenal's attack, with the pace he has, Arsenal would destroy the opposition. an extremely talented squad would be a frightening prospect for Arsenal's rivals.

“I think that with Rashford Arsenal would allow Arsenal to have more variety in attack and I would like to see Gabriel Jesus and Marcus Rashford in the same team, pressing with so much intensity. Rashford joining Arsenal would be a wonderful an asset to the club and a great asset.” real ambition statement.

“He hasn't been at his best, but when that happens you need support and a good environment to get you back to your best level. You need your teammates and your manager to take you to the next level. You you need people to believe in you.” “

Gunmen keep an eye on Randal Kolo Muani

Rashford is not the only striker linked with Arsenal in January. According to reports from Spanish side Fichajes, the Gunners are pursuing a move for PSG striker Randal Kolo Muani.

The French international striker has a great pedigree and has 27 caps for France, with eight goals for the team. However, he has not shown the best of his skills since joining PSG from Eintracht Frankfurt for a fee of £76.4 million.

Muani has only scored eleven goals in 54 games so far. He has scored just two goals this season and has had to settle for a bench option in recent weeks under manager Luis Enrique – who appears to favor Goncalo Ramos up front.

Despite his recent woes, Arsenal could be willing to give him a chance at the Emirates, due to his lack of playing time. The report claims that PSG could be open to a loan with an option to buy, which would suit the Gunners well.

With Arsenal's goal-scoring burden split between Kai Havertz and Bukayo Saka, both of whom have five players, the club need a recognized striker and Muani could be the man to shake up Arteta's attack, it is further said.

Wright tips Arsenal to sign striker

If Arsenal need more attacking options to target in January, they may want to take some advice from club legend Ian Wright, who believes he has identified two strikers who could boost the team.

Wright believes Frankfurt striker Omar Marmoush or Atalanta star Ademola Lookman could both be great signings for the Gunners.

“There are two players I would probably go for,” he said on his Wrighty's House podcast when asked which signings could kick-start Arsenal's season. I would like people to take a look at Omar Marmoush and Ademola Lookman at Atalanta.”

Marmoush is having a fantastic season in the Bundesliga with 18 goals in all competitions, surpassing an already great year in 2023/24 in which he scored 17 goals.

Lookman, previously at Everton, Fulham and Leicester, continues to go from strength to strength at Serie A Atalanta.

He has scored 11 goals from the wing this season, meaning the forward has scored a total of 43 goals from 96 appearances so far.
