Arsenal transfer news: Gunners to make bid for Barcelona star as Alexander Isak offer made

The January transfer window has already been open for a fortnight, but all is quiet when it comes to Arsenal.

Mikel Arteta has opted not to add a new face to his current squad. But that could all change as North London hits a rough patch.

They were knocked out of the FA Cup by Manchester United this weekend, with their hopes of winning the Premier League and Carabao Cup hanging by a thread. A striker may be on their shopping list after Gabriel Jesus suffered an injury.

A host of names have already been linked with moves to the Emirates Stadium. Check out all the latest transfer news and rumours:

Arsenal are reportedly making a bid for Barcelona star Ronald Araujo, but a deal is still a long way off. The Uruguayan is backed to leave Camp Nou in January amid interest from Italian giants Juventus.

But the Serie A side could potentially face competition. According to Sport, Arsenal are considering a bid for Araujo to expand their defensive options.

It is suggested that Barcelona would like to sell for around €70-80 million, but Arsenal will not come close to that. It is further revealed that Araujo's representatives are now looking for alternatives in an attempt to get him to move.

By staying with Juventus, they could potentially provide the answer to Arsenal's striker woes with a strike on a former target. According to Tuttosport via IlBianconero, Juve striker Dusan Vlahovic is a long-term target for the Gunners.

And they were able to rekindle their interest in him after Jesus' wounding. Vlahovic, 24, has scored 12 goals in 23 games for Juventus this season.

But he is not the only striker Arsenal will be considering. PSG star Randal Kolo-Muani is reportedly an option, with Manchester United also considering his services.

Arsenal fan Piers Morgan wants Arsenal to move for another striker who plays in black and white: Alexander Isak. Speaking to talkSPORT, he said: “The reality is that I have very calmly, every time I have come on, politely suggested that we should sign a good striker. The days of calm are over now… we need a damn striker!

“If you want to win big trophies, you have to be ruthless and sign the best players. Isak is the best striker in Europe right now… Arsenal, break the bank!”

Morgan added: “I would literally drive to Newcastle right now, with a ton full of money, and I would give Newcastle what it needs.

“I don't care, £100 million, £120 million, £140 million, £150 million, I will find the players of our 87 defenders that Arteta has bought in recent years, I will find the players to make the money and do FFP things.”
