Arsenal have less than two weeks left in the January transfer window.
The clock is ticking for the Gunners after Mikel Arteta complained deeply about his side's lack of strength at the moment. The North Londoners were unable to secure victory over Aston Villa last weekend and the Spaniard emphasized the difference between his team and Liverpool.
“I think if you look at the performances, I don't know how many teams are playing at this level in the league,” Arteta said. “If you look at the bench, you're probably saying, look at the bench, we're coming very, very close.”
Arsenal could still look to strengthen their attacking line and also prepare deals for the summer. Mirror Football takes a look at some of the latest transfer news and rumors surrounding the Emirates.
Arsenal talks about progress
Arsenal are pleased with the progress of talks over midfielder Martin Zubimendi ahead of a summer move from Real Sociedad. The Gunners are making progress on a deal but a transfer is not certain, according to reports.
Thomas Partey and Jorginho are expected to leave at the end of their contracts in the summer, meaning Arteta needs reinforcements in the center of the pitch. The Gunners are confident Zubimendi will land and the Gunners head coach is said to have played a key role in the talks.
New striker on Arsenal's shortlist
Arsenal are plotting a move for Inter Milan CEO Marcus Thuram, TV Play reports, according to Sport Witness. The Gunners are interested in strengthening their attacking line following injuries to the likes of Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Jesus.
Thuram has impressed for Inter this season, scoring 14 goals in 26 games and providing six assists. Arsenal are 'ready to do something crazy' to secure his signature, although the Serie A side are hesitant about a January deal.
As a result, Arsenal may have better luck in the summer than if they made an immediate move for the 27-year-old.
Arsenal are considering options
The Gunners are reminded of the difficulty of operating in the January transfer window; More deals appear possible in the summer to strengthen Arteta's hand. With additions needed to support any bid to win the Premier League this season, the north London side are considering their options.
Among them would be Botafogo striker Igor Jesus. The 23-year-old has made four appearances for Brazil and scored once since his debut in October.
Jesus could be available this month if Arsenal decide to go one step further, unlike the likes of Benjamin Sesko. RTI Esporte claimed earlier this month that Arsenal have already seen a bid bounced back.
