Arsenal transfer news: Real Madrid backed for William Saliba swoop as team-mate eyes exit

Arsenal are in good talks to win the Premier League title this year.

The Gunners remain behind current table toppers Liverpool. But one thing that could help them close the gap in the coming weeks is the January additions.

Mikel Arteta has not been regularly busy in the winter market, having decided not to spend at all last season. But that could possibly change this time.

A number of stars have already been linked with moves to the Emirates Stadium, while some current Gunners could be sold. Check out all the latest Arsenal rumours:

Former Real Madrid defender Rafael Alkorta has urged the Spanish giants to make a move for Arsenal defender William Saliba. He told AS: “There is a weakness at centre-back and wing-back because of so many injuries, but you can already say that [youngster Raul] Asencio has removed a problem because his performance is very high.

“Maybe with him and another central defender from the academy plus Rudiger and Alaba, if he comes back soon it could work.”

“I like Saliba from Arsenal,” he added. “Without financial constraints I would definitely sign him. He is a really interesting player. Of the young central defenders in Europe I would say he is at least in the top three.”

While Saliba could be eyed by Real Madrid, Gabriel Jesus could also be on his way to the Emirates Stadium. According to Brazilian outlet UOL, Jesus is considering his future at Arsenal after falling down the pecking order.

And Arsenal could potentially be tempted to cash in if they receive an acceptable offer. Jesus joined Arsenal in a £45m transfer from Premier League rivals Manchester City in 2022.

But since then injuries have limited him to just 86 appearances and he has scored 20 goals. The 27-year-old Jesus still has two and a half years left on his contract with Arsenal.

Rodri has told Manchester City to sign Nico Williams ahead of Arsenal. He told AS: “Yes, yes.

“If I were to take him now, I would also take him to teach him about the cold in England, although it is similar to Bilbao. But yes, I would take him without a doubt.”

Williams has been in stunning form at Athletic Bilbao in recent seasons. Liverpool are also among the contenders for his signature.
