Liverpool and Arsenal will resume their struggle for the Premier League title in the last weeks of the season, because the other 18 clubs in the competition also fight to achieve their goals.
The last international break of the season is in the books and we are now on the road to arrange all the big talk points in the Premier League, although both the title race and the relegation forms already look like a foregone conclusion.
Liverpool retains a healthy advantage over Arsenal, which probably does not look like the shortage of 12 points. That means that the side of Arne Slot can be confirmed as champions earlier instead of later.
The race for the Champions League is intriguing with a large number of teams that are still in the mix. Manchester City is, in the midst of their struggles, not yet guaranteed a top-four finish.
And at the bottom, Southampton, Leicester and Ipswich Town all seem to be destined for an immediate return to the championship rod, a wonderful change in shape – but strange things have happened.
Here, Spiegel Voetbal around the latest news from around the Premier League …
Cunha confirms the exit plan
One of the biggest disappointments in Arsenal this season will undoubtedly be their failure to get a new striker in both transfer window. The lack of firepower of the Gunners cost them and ensured that they were left by the impressive Liverpool team of Arne Slot, which offers the star ahead, such as Mohamed Salah, Darwin Nunez, Luis Diaz, Diogo Jota and Cody Gakpo.
Arsenal was connected to a large number of strikers in January, including Alexander Isak from Newcastle, Ollie Watkins from Aston Villa and Wolves star Matheus Cunha. Unfortunately for Arteta there was no movement for one of those players, even though the club made a late step for Watkins, with a transfer for Cunha also excluded after he signed a new contract in Molineux.
But now the Brazilian – who has 13 goals for Vitor Pereira this season – has now revealed that he wants a new challenge next season and a challenge for awards at the highest level. Arsenal could get hope to close a deal for Cunha in the summer after he insisted that he “wanted to fight for titles”, and said it was not possible to leave the mid -season.
Salah's Cryptic Trent -Update
Mohamed Salah shared a clip of Alexander-Arnold on his Instagram story after a week of avid speculation about the future of the defender. Alexander-Arnold is expected to join Real Madrid with a free transfer when his Liverpool contract ends at the end of the season and Salah, who no longer has a contract in the summer, rises to more speculation with his post.
In the clip Ibrahima Konate and Dominik Szoboszlai can be seen in conversation before the camera turns to Alexander-Arnold. The clip contains no audio.
Newcastle wants United Chief
The Chief Operating Officer Collette Roche from Manchester United has been nominated as a candidate to become the new Chief Executive of Newcastle. Roche is supposed to have attracted interest of the Magpies because they want to name a successor to Darren Eales.
While the arrival of Ineos brought widespread changes to the club just over a year ago, Roche has been one of the rare examples of continuity behind the scenes. She has seen her role extensively in the Sir Jim Ratcliffe era and is a valued member of the Executive Team.
As a COO, she played a practical role in the football department, which helps with the development of the training ground and the plans for a new stadium in Old Trafford. Eales was appointed in August 2022 in Newcastle and gets away from his position after he had established a chronic form of blood cancer.
