Arsenal's victory over Fulham on Tuesday evening was overshadowed by an injury to defender Gabriel with the Brazil -international with other senior stars on the sidelines
Arsenal defender Gabriel is excluded for the rest of the season in a devastating injury for the Gunners. Gabriel will undergo surgery on Tuesday evening on his hamstring injury against Fulham and Arsenal hopes that he will be suitable for the start of the following season.
That means that half of the Brazil center will miss both legs of Arsenal's Champions League quart final with Real Madrid and a potential urge to European glory. Gabriel will also have to play the remaining matches of the Premier League season of Arsenal in what an injury-gradered campaign has been.
Unbelievable, Gabriel is the third Arsenal player this season to require surgery to a hamstring injury after Bukayo Saka and Kai Havertz. Saka was just over three months out and let his first team return on Tuesday evening and now hopes to be fit to start against Real Madrid.
Havertz sustained his hamstring injury during the Dubai break of Arsenal to leave the Gunners without a recognized center Vooruit in the team. Gunners -Baas Mikel Arteta was plagued this season by injuries with Gabriel Martinelli who also missed a few weeks with a hamstring injury that did not need any operation.
Martin Odegaard, Ben White and Gabriel Jesus are, among other things, those who have had important dismissals, while the signing of Riccardo Calafiori last summer has missed weeks with various injury problems. The hamstring operation has become a growing trend in football, because it is designed to ensure that the same problem does not flar up again and removes weaknesses and scar tissue.
Arsenal said in a statement about Gabriel: “Furthermore, to be replaced during our match against Fulham on Tuesday, we can confirm that Gabriel Magalhaes has sustained a hamstring injury that requires an operation.
“In the coming days, Gabi will undergo a surgical repair procedure to his hamstring and immediately start his recovery and rehabilitation program, with the aim of being ready for the start of the following season. Everyone at the club will be fully focused on supporting GABI to ensure that he is completely suitable for full fitness as quickly as possible.”
Arsenal will probably use Jakub Kiwior as a stand-in for Gabriel against Real Madrid, but the Brazilian defender is a big miss because this season he has been a big competition for the player of the year of the year. The Gunners also sweat on the Fitness of White for the Madrid match after his recent return while he resolved his previous knee injury.
Jurrien Timber also limited Fulham and is a fitness care, while Calafiori is expected to be out until the end of this month after his last injury while he is in international service.
