Arsenal -striker Viktor Gyokeres said he wants to cut out his own place in the history of the club and played comparisons with Thierry Henry after taking the number 14 sweater.
The 27-year-old Sweden International, who took 54 goals in all competitions last season, completed his 63.5 million euros ($ 72.56 million) of Sporting on Saturday.
Gyokees took the vacant number 14 shirt from Arsenal, which former Captain Henry was famous to become the record scorer of the club.
“Of course I know about history,” Gyokers told the British media on Wednesday. “To be honest, there were not many numbers available. There were not too many to choose from.
“But of course it was available. So when I knew that, it was an easy choice to take it.
“It is not really my intention to be compared to what he has achieved in his career. Especially here. I just want to do my own thing and show my qualities. Of course he was a great player, but different from me.”
Arsenal starts their new Premier League campaign in Manchester United on 17 August.
