Arsenal’s striker search turns to Championship wonderkid dubbed ‘next Jamie Vardy’

Arsenal is planned for a big summer in the transfer market and teenage perspective Harvey Higgins is set up for a switch to the Emirates, which is impressed at the youth level for Blackburn and England

Arsenal reportedly sees a movement for a highly valued Blackburn-young Harvey Higgins, who has earned comparisons with Jamie Vardy. The 16-year-old striker made waves in Blackburn and also played for England at youth level.

Higgins has also attracted the attention of sponsors, after he has signed a contract with sportswear giant Puma, and Arsenal is one of the many clubs that are seen to be interested in his services. According to the sun, Serie A clubs are ready to match Arsenal for the striker.

However, the Gunners hope to close a deal 'in the coming weeks', so that Blackburn could earn up to £ 1.5 million in compensation. The report adds that Blackburn is also confronted with a fight to hold the 16-year-old defender Silver Eze.

Eze only came to Blackburn from Accrington Stanley in November, but the Italian youth international would already find interest from 'big clubs'.

Higgins debuted for Blackburn's Under-21s at the age of only 15 in December and scored when they pulled 4-4 with Preston North End. Eze also made his debut under 21 in that match and head coach Mike Sheron was full of praise for the two teenagers.

“First and foremost it was wonderful to see that some really young boys get along well and deal well,” Sheron told the Lancashire Telegraph. “We had a 15-year-old and a 16-year-old who finished the game and it is great to see part of the talent that we have come through the academy and get the opportunities.

“To see Harvey scoring with more or less his first touch was great and we started the game well, score in the first minute. I felt that they were probably the better side in the first half, they dominated the possession much more than we had found them and maybe their experience showed more.

“You have to praise our boys a lot, because during the rest we had words about how we would stop the tide and it was great to see the replacements work. To make it right, to go 3-2 and then 4-3 up, I thought we showed a good spirit tonight and I was really satisfied with how the second half went.

“At the end I was just disappointed about the game management, but you have to expect that with a young side. We were really happy with the positives in the future, but we were pretty disappointing about transitions and a bit too open.”

In the meantime, Arsenal is preparing for a “big summer” on the transfer market after the appointment of Andrea Berta as the new sports director of the club. “It will be a big one and we are very enthusiastic about it,” said Arteta.

“The way we had planned the five first summers would be very big and they would have different objectives because the turnaround of players and the purpose of those windows would be different.

“But now that you are going again, we want to increase the depth of the team, but we also want to increase the quality and skills we need to go to the next step. I think Andrea is a big addition to the club, a big addition to the team, a team that has already been formed with many great people.

“Every summer is great because it is a chance and especially because of the number of players we now have in the team, that is necessary. But it is a big summer for many things, because we first have to maintain the good foundations that we have and then clearly how we can improve and evolve the team.”
