Mikel Arteta admitted “things weren't looking good” after revealing two huge injuries for the Gunners.
Arsenal suffered a double blow ahead of the Christmas round of Premier League fixtures when manager Mikel Arteta revealed two of his top players had suffered injuries and would be out for at least “weeks”.
Both Bukayo Saka and Raheem Sterling will now recover in Arsenal's injury room as the team look to chase Liverpool at the top of the Premier League during this busy time in the fixture list.
What injury does Bukayo Saka have?
Bukayo Saka suffered an injury during Arsenal's 1-5 win over Crystal Palace in the Premier League last weekend, with Arteta overcoming the Christmas spirit by announcing that the winger “felt something in his hamstring” and could not continue in the match.
Arteta was 'very concerned' about Saka's injury
In addition, Arteta went further at the post-match press conference, admitting that the club was “really concerned about that”.
During the pre-match press conference for the draw against Ipswich (December 27), the Spaniard was examined again for Saka and admitted that Saka's injury “didn't look good”. He will be out for many weeks.”
'It's a huge blow'
“It's a huge blow,” Arteta continued, “but it will be a big exercise for us to overcome another challenge.”
“I'm putting together some ideas, we will do new things, just like we did when Ødegaard was out,” he added, noting that there is a plan to replace the 23-year-old. Gabi has played there, Nwaneri and Trossard and Havertz can also play there. We will talk internally and see what the best solution is.”
Added to the Saka situation is that of Raheem Sterling, who has suffered a knee injury. Arteta opened up about the winger's condition and revealed he will be on the sidelines for a number of weeks along with Sterling.
Arsenal will play Ipswich Town at the Emirates Stadium on matchday 18 of the Premier League. The game takes place on December 27 at 3:15 ET.
