Mikel Arteta has revealed that Arsenal are 'actively looking' for a striker to fill the void left by injured strikers Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Jesus as his side look to stay on course in the title race.
The Gunners bounced back from a goal down against Tottenham on Wednesday night to beat their north London rivals 2-1 thanks to Leandro Trossard's winner.
It was exactly the boost Arteta needed after a tough week that saw his side succumb to a first-leg defeat to Newcastle in the League Cup, crash out of the FA Cup to Man United and lose Gabriel Jesus to a long-term injury – just like the Brazilian striker was finding his scoring boots.
Jesus' injury has further reduced Arsenal's attacking options after the loss of Saka to a hamstring injury last month.
But after a win over Spurs which cut Liverpool's lead over them at the top of the Premier League to four points, Arteta offered Arsenal fans hope by revealing he is looking for reinforcements for a title push.
When asked by Rio Ferdinand on TNT Sports whether Arsenal would try to buy a striker in January, the Gunners boss said: 'Yes for sure, because we have lost two big players. Bukayo could be out for three months and Gabby is out. also very long.
'We're definitely going to try. We are actively looking.
'We have lost two very important players, we have fourteen players in the squad and we play every three days. So we'll try and let's see what we can get.'
The Spaniard will have to fit any transfer agreements into a hectic schedule of six games in twenty days.
Arsenal next host Aston Villa in the competition on Saturday, followed by a Champions League match at the Emirates the following Wednesday.
