Arteta facing fresh Arsenal striker concern as rivals eye top transfer target

Arsenal could be forced this summer to eliminate it with Manchester United if they finally want to land Benjamin Sesko.

The Slovenia International, 21, has attracted the attention of the Big-Hitters of the Premier League with its impressive form for RB Leipzig, who succeeded in signing a new contract in the summer.

Sesko was the best target of Arsenal in their search for a new No. 9, so it should be no surprise to see that they have kept their powder dry since then. However, they must sign a new striker prior to the 2025-26 campaign and are expected to return for Sesko.

But with Sesko also on the Radar of Manchester United, a deal may not be as simple as it initially seemed.

The Gunners will of course first focus on the current season, since they are still in the title race. But the fact that Kai Havertz – who tore his hamstring this week – will not be fit until the preseason only will increase the pressure on Arsenal to sign a top striker.

United will join the Spitsmarkt. Both clubs are linked to Victor Gyokees, who flourished under Ruben Amorim in Sporting Lisbon. Speculation that the Sweden star would follow Amorim to Old Trafford has also been raised in recent months.

As set out by athletics, it is now considered 'unlikely' that Gyokees will join Amorim at Manchester United, who are ready to turn to Sesko or Ipswich Town Striker, Liam Delap, in the summer transfer window.

Although United's interest in Sesko can make things difficult for Arsenal, Mikel Arteta and Co would still feel like their chances of winning the race for his services, since they can offer him Champions League football. Apart from a huge turning point in the second half of the season, United will not play European football at all next season.

Arsenal's decision not to sign a new attacker in January was partly due to the fact that their top goals, such as Sesko, would not move in the middle season.

But when Arteta was asked if he was sorry that the Gunners chose to eliminate their time until the summer with Havertz, he replied: “We always submitted that situation that we had removed one or two injuries from a very risky situation.

“But if you do your best and think that you have done everything you are capable of and have done your homework and try that and not achieve it, you can regret, but at least you know you have done it.”
