Arteta in ‘constant contact’ with transfer figure after making Arsenal demand

Mikel Arteta insists he is in “constant contact” with Arsenal's owners as he looks to bring in a number of players this month.

The Gunners are yet to make an appearance in the January transfer market, but with Liverpool's lead at the top of the Premier League growing and the Gunners' injuries piling up, there is a desire at the club to recruit some new faces.

Arteta is yet to sign a productive frontman, and that has haunted the team several times. Their attacking resources have been hit with Gabriel Jesus out for the season, while Bukayo Saka will be sidelined for months.

The Arsenal boss has made it clear that they are trying to land someone before the transfer window closes on February 3, and he remains in talks with Arsenal's owners. Co-chairman Josh Kroenke is an influential figure and he is currently in Britain after flying in from America and will attend the Champions League with Dinamo Zagreb in the Emirates on Wednesday.

Arteta said: “We are of course in constant contact, we understand the situation and how the team is evolving. Obviously, some of the big news we had wasn't all that positive, unfortunately. What we think, they have been super supportive and they continue to be so.”

Asked if the owners would be willing to support him this month, Arteta added: “First of all, we support the club and themselves, you know, because we all want the best.

“The decision we make is not to support anyone, it's just something that makes sense, that will improve the team, that will give us the opportunity to perform at a level and win the things we want to do. . If that is the case and we have the resources to do it, we will try.”

Arsenal have been linked with several mid-season moves, largely for strikers. Alexander Isak is out of their price range and players like Benjamin Sesko are also being touted as targets. The RB Leipzig frontman is still linked with a possible move to the Premier League.

Arteta complained about the team's lack of resources this weekend when Arsenal were at the hands of Aston Villa, just after Liverpool's bench helped them secure three points against Brentford. He said: “They made the substitutions, and the substitutions had the impact and changed the game. On our side it was the opposite.”
