Mikel Arteta said that he and the new sports director Andrea Berta are on the same page about which players Arsenal want to sign this summer.
Berta, formerly from Atletico Madrid, was appointed in March in his new role to replace EDU.
The coming transfer window is crucial for the Gunners, with a new striker at the top of their list.
Both Sporting Lisbon's Viktor Gyokeres and RB Leipzig's Benjamin Sesko are firmly on the radar of the North London club.
When asked whether he and Berta are on different pages in terms of transfers, Arteta said: 'Well, if that happens, this means that we cannot explain ourselves well enough, and we are not clear enough about what we want. I guarantee you that did not happen.
'It didn't happen in five and a half years at Edu, and I guarantee you with Andrea (that didn't happen).
'They (club hierarchy) are good to say:' Look, Mikel, this and this is what we need. “I said,” Ok, go do it. ” And if (we) do not do that, it is because I will also ask many questions and we will do so much work that it will be so clear that this is what we don't have to do.
“Because we also learned a lot. Some of them (signing sessions) have worked really well and others did not.
'And we must learn from those (who have not worked) to ensure that we make the right calls. We are all people and unfortunately nobody here has a crystal ball. '
In the meantime, Kai Havertz could appear against Newcastle on Sunday in a match that would seal the Champions League football victory for next season.
The German has been sidelined since he ran a hamstring crack in the field of mid -season in Dubai in Dubai in February.
But he is now back in the fold and Arteta is impressed by the physical transformation of the striker.
Arteta added: 'We will decide tomorrow about him. He has done certain parts of the sessions for the past two days.
'He looks in excellent condition, but I think it is more a shout of the medical staff, especially the doctor, who gives the approval and then how Kai actually feels to contribute when he is needed.
“His working speed (IS) incredible. We know how important Kai is for us. And the fact that he looks in excellent condition, I think he has improved many of the statistics that are very important for a striker to give himself the best chance.
“And you see the transformation on him, which has been really impressive.”
