The 2-1 victory of Arsenal against Fulham on Tuesday evening was marred by injuries for defensive duo Gabriel and Jurrien Timber.
It turned out to be a mixed night before the Gunners who saw Bukayo Saka mark his return of three months with a hamstring injury – but also lost the center back Gabriel after just 16 minutes of a hamstring problem.
Arsenal insured the victory – with Mikel Merino who took the other Gunners goal and Rodrigo Muniz's comfort from Fulham – to close the gap on Premier League leaders to nine points.
But the injury to Gabriel is a seismic blow to their Champions League quarterfinal first-LEG draw against Real Madrid next Tuesday in the Emirates.
Both he and Jurrien Timber, who have a knee delivery, will be assessed on Wednesday.
“Yes (there is care) because he (Gabriel) never comes loose,” said Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta.
“He felt something. We don't know how big it is.
“Jurrien too. He struggled in the game very early. He managed to continue, at one point he couldn't. '
Before the collision with Real Madrid, Arsenal travels to the Everton of David Moyes for the lunch match on Saturday.
