A desperate Mikel Arteta is open to the raid of the free agent market for a striker in an attempt to support the title of Arsenal after the seasonal injury of Kai Havertz.
The forward situation of the Gunners has become so terrible that even the center of William Saliba has offered jokes to play in the front.
Havertz sustained a hamstring injury during the recent journey from Arsenal to Dubai and ruled him for the rest of the season.
That is what Arteta leaves dangerously short in attack with only three recognized attackers in Leandro Trossard, Raheem Sterling and Ethan Nwaneri While the North -London club tries to close the gap on leaders Liverpool, who are clear seven points in the Premier League table.
Closed with the transfer window, signing a Free Agent player is the only way in which Arsenal could make a new registration.
When asked about the possibility, Arteta said: “I will explore every possible situation and make a decision.”
Among the available names are ex-Chelsea man Diego Costa, Carlos Vela and Mariano Diaz.
The 36-year-old ex-Chelsea man Costa was notorious for his antics, but scored 52 goals in 89 performances for the blues.
Ex-Gunner Vela, 35 was in the North London club from 2005 to 2012. He left Los Angeles FC last month.
And Diaz, 31, who had two separate spells at Real Madrid, is another option.
The loss of Havertz is undoubtedly a big blow. The German is the top scorer of Arsenal so far this season with 15 goals on all competitions.
Saliba's reaction, however, laughed from his boss.
“Willy is so funny,” he said.
'It was immediately one of his reactions. It is also true that he played there (as a young person). He always scored many goals. But probably many players there played when they were younger.
“Can you imagine (him as a goalkeeper)?”
Arteta said that Havertz sustained the injury after a set piece in the training, but is convinced that his team can ride this season after a series of injuries.
Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli, who both have hamstring injuries, are out until at least March and Gabriel Jesus is an absent in the long term with a knee injury.
“He went to stop a shot after a set piece and stretched out the leg and he felt his hamstring,” he added.
“The injury certainly happened in a very unexpected way. So of course it is a big blow because of the injuries we have. But luckily we have experienced a lot this season.
'We played without Gabriel Magalhaes, without (William) Saliba, without Ben White the entire season, (Takehiro) Tomiyyasu the entire season, (Riccardo) Calafiori two months, (Mikel) Merino two months, Martin Odegard two months, Bukayo Saka Three months, Gabriel Jesus, all. So that's it.
“That is the challenge that lies for us. I think it's great and look out because we are still where we are with all the things I mentioned on top of playing four times with 10 men, bla, bla, bla. So let's see what the team was made of. '
