Aston Villa 2-0 Cardiff: Asensio bags brace for hosts to reach FA Cup QFs

Marco Asensio scored a brace for the second consecutive game in Villa Park, because Cardiff's resistance was finally broken on a successful debut for automated offside in England.

After Marcus Rashford was embarrassing from four meters, the England attacker recovered to set up Asensio for the most important breakthrough halfway through the second half, the new technological government was directly Rashford in the structure.

Asensio, on loan from PSG, then decided the draw when Villa reached the FA Cup quarte finals, despite playing their fifth game in 13 days with a Champions League trip to Bruges's appearing on Tuesday.

While Unai Emery called a strong line-up from Aston Villa, his Cardiff counterpart Omer Riza made six changes with his team that fought relegation in the championship.

The Bluebirds XI, however, included Aaron Ramsey – who played for the club in the FA Cup final of 2008 – and former Villa players Anwar El Ghazi and Callum Robinson.

The last of the FA Cup triumphs of Villa was in 1957, but the Tannoy -broadcaster tried to raise the atmosphere by reminding everyone how sweet it would be to lift the trophy again in this 'special year', the club's 150 -year anniversary.

Marcus Rashford tried to let the ball roll with a decent free kick after nine minutes stored by Ethan Horvath.

The Leenlee of Manchester United then showed the intention to reach the name rule where his cross was impressively cut out by teen Dylan Lawlor.

The automated outdoor game system debuted in England, but since Villa dominated the ball against the low block of Cardiff, it didn't seem like it was a match in which it would be used too much.

Ollie Watkins Timed his run to perfection to break clearly after 18 minutes, but Horvarth drained the corners well and his left shoe leaded the low finish of the English striker off.

The last trophy of Aston Villa was the competition cup in 1996. And although Emery claimed that other clubs had stronger squadrons this year to be successful, the recording of EMI Martinez, John McGinn and other Big-Hitters suggested that he feels like lifting silverware.

With the city camping in their own half, Rashford cut the ball back for Youri Tielemans whose strike was brilliantly blocked by the 34-year-old Ramsey.

Cardiff is 19th in the second layer, but their posture was impressive in Harrying Villa on every occasion.

Ramsey dropped deep to ping a 50-year pass on the feet of El Ghazi and to create Cardiff's first chance. Whether it would have been if automated offside had not done his work and the winger had kept offside in a double fast time when he bumped with Martinez and appealed to a penalty. First triumph for technology after 27 minutes.

Leon Bailey produced a good tip-over rescue from Horvath after half an hour and then Rashford picked his lines to shoot from four meters.

It is not surprising that he kept his head in his hands, surprised by the Miss of Bailey's Cross – more contact with his leg than his boot. Six thousand delighted Cardiff fans sang: “Da-da-da-da Marcus useless.”

With a very decent chance, Watkins was then in Horvath's breast of six meters who approached the peace.

Villa ended the first half with almost 70% possession and the second took place in a similar vein.

McGinn loved the penalty area and rolled a low finish to the lower corner with Horvath that stretched his left arm to give away.

Then to try to thwart the American international was Rashford whose swerver struck with the outside of the bottom, Horvath saw through the air to claw away.

While the chances came up, Watkins curled past the far pole inside the box.

Ramsey left halfway through the second half, looking for Bluebirds fresh legs to steal the claret and blue tide. Almost immediately, Yousef Salech registered the visitor's first shot on Doel and beat Ezri Konsa to fire with Martinez who held up.

Maybe the cage rattled from the Wales side because they finally broke the impasse in their next attack.

Tielemans pinged a pass to Rashford on the left and his stretch to Volley A Cross in Asensio's path was sweetly hit by the Spaniard who had previously stopped.

Normal VAR may have taken a while to determine whether Rashford had been offside in the structure because it was close by, but the automated offside quickly ruled that it was a legitimate goal.

Asensio, once from Real Madrid, was clearly in the mood. From the cross of Bailey Dummied, Dummied and the Spaniard shots from eight meters to close the draw.
