Aston Villa 2-1 Leicester: Bailey leaves it late to fire Emery’s side past Foxes

Leon Bailey scored his first goal of the Premier League season to fire Aston Villa to a 2-1 win against Leicester.

The mood was low at Villa Park as Stephy Mavididi smashed home an equalizer shortly after Ross Barkley's stunning opener, but Villa got some much-needed help from the bench to propel them to victory.

After climbing out of the dugout in the 76th minute, summer signing Ian Maatsen raced into the penalty area and set up his teammate Bailey for the second goal within seconds of entering.

It's a win that only moves Villa to eighth in the table, but it will allow Unai Emery to breathe a sigh of relief after ending 2024 with a draw and defeat to Brighton and Newcastle respectively.

As for Leicester, despite showing signs of struggle in their fight for survival, Ruud van Nistelrooy's side have now suffered five defeats.

Escaping the drop zone is within reach, but with Wolves' resurgence in form the two-point gap that currently separates the sides could widen very quickly.
