Aston Villa 3-2 Paris Saint-Germain: Brave hosts fall agonisingly short of semi-final

Paris Saint-Germain survived an inspired second half of Aston Villa to win their Champions League quarterfinals 5-4, despite losing 3-2 in the second stage.

The French quickly continued where they had gone in the first stage of last week in Paris, with a looting full-back Achraf Hakimi who delivered the opener in Villa Park.

Only 16 minutes later, PSG's other full-back seemed to have killed the Das by putting the visitors on it while he cleverly finished an escape while the hosts attacked.

But your Tielemans offered Villa a spark of hope with a deflected finish from the area in the 34th minute.

In the 55th minute, Captain John McGinn Villa Park sent to Bedlam while he set things right in the night. McGinn took the ball and drove forward before he caught Gianluigi Donnarumma with a long -distance attack.

Only two minutes later, Ezri Konsa finished from the area after he was selected by Marcus Rashford, who brilliantly carried the ball past two defenders in the area.

Now Villa 3-2 was ahead and only one one after the other with more than half an hour to go.

It is understandable that the hosts flocked forward and pulled a series of brilliant saves from Donnarumma. Konsa was a pity not to come to the end of another cross, while Ian Maatsen saw a goalbound volley that was blocked late.

In the end, PSG could hold on, although they were completely pushed. The French side is confronted with Arsenal or Real Madrid in the semi -final.

We have given it everything.

Debrief data: impressive villa performance that is not enough to continue

Since making his Aston Villa debut in February, no Premier League player has given more assists in all competitions than Marcus Rashford (five).

For PSG, the goal of Mendes was now his fourth in the Champions League this season, making him the best -scoring defender in the competition.

It was also the first time that PSG has not succeeded in winning a Champions League match, despite leading two goals since March 2001.
