Few players have impressed as much in La Liga over the past two years as Oscar Mingueza, and he has attracted many admiring eyes over the past six months. It seems Aston Villa has decided to take action first.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Villa has opened talks with Celta for Mingueza, although those talks are still in the early stages. However, Mingueza has been described as one of their top targets, and someone well-liked by both the Villa board and manager Unai Emery, who is keeping a close eye on potential La Liga recruits.
Mingueza became a creative force for Celta Vigo under Rafael Benitez, but has gone even further under Claudio Giraldez since replacing the former Liverpool manager. He earned his first Spain call-up last September and was also part of the two subsequent squads. RB Leipzig have also been heavily linked with Mingueza in recent weeks, while Barcelona have a 50% sell-on fee. Villa can force the release by activating his €20 million release clause, while Celta president Marian Mourino has stated they want to keep Mingueza at least until the summer.
