Aston Villa present offer for new La Liga defender as Bade pursuit runs cold

Aston Villa are determined to sign a new centre-back before the 2025 transfer window ends, and their favorite targets are in La Liga. After seemingly missing out on their preferred option, they now appear to have made one of their Plan B choices.

Loic Bade was pursued by Aston Villa, but after their opening bid was rejected they are looking elsewhere, especially as the player himself has confirmed he will remain at Sevilla until at least the end of the season. Now they are going for a player who knows Unai Emery well.

According to Diario AS, Juan Foyth is the player Aston Villa are going for now, and an opening has already been received by Villarreal. Although the value has not been disclosed, it is believed to be close to the asking price set by the Yellow Submarine.

It was Emery who signed Foyth from Villarreal in 2020. The Argentine defender signed an initial loan deal from Tottenham Hotspur, which was made permanent the following summer. The pair could now be reunited in Birmingham, although this will only happen if Foyth gives his approval.

Foyth had a very tough 2024, as he was out for almost the entire calendar year after back-to-back serious injuries. He returned in December and in recent weeks has started as a centre-back, having previously been deployed as a right-back.

It is clear that these negotiations between Villarreal, Aston Villa and Foyth are serious, as he remained on the bench for Saturday's 1-1 draw against Atletico Madrid at the Metropolitano. It remains to be seen whether a deal will be completed in the final days before the winter transfer window comes to an end.
