Aston Villa has confirmed that they complained to the PGMOL opposite their controversial defeat against Manchester United. Morgan Rogers' purpose was excluded by the referee, where referee Thomas Bramall dissolves for an error on goalkeeper Altay Bayindir.
The Red Devils eventually won 2-0. It was a result that Villa saw a place missing in the Champions League. They finally finished sixth in the Premier League.
It was suggested that Villa was ready to make their anger known to the administrative body of the referees, the PGMOL. And that is now confirmed by the Unai Emery side.
A statement from the Midlands side was: “Aston Villa can confirm that the club has written the PGMOL to express their concern about the selection process of competition officials after today's game with Manchester United at Old Trafford.
“With such high efforts around today's game, the club believes that a more experienced referee should have been appointed.
“Of the 10 referees who are being suggested in the Premier League today, Mr Bramall was the least experienced. The decision to refuse Morgan Rogers' goal, that the club would have given a 1-0 lead with 17 minutes in the game, was an important contributing factor for the club that did not qualify for the Champions League.
“According to the standards set during the course of the season, a decision to whistle early is clearly not consistent with the current referee guidelines. VAR exists to ensure that these kinds of situations receive the control they deserve. Unfortunately, the technology should not serve its goal.
“Ultimately, we acknowledge that the outcome will not change for us, but we believe that it is important to tackle the selection method to ensure that races with high deployment are treated as such with regard to officer and to ensure that the implemented VAR technology may be effective.”
The Premier League has pronounced itself in the midst of the controversy to explain the decision. A statement on Sunday afternoon was: “The referee's call was a free kick to Manchester United with Bayindir to have the ball over the ball before Rogers got possessed. The whistle was blown by the referee before the ball entered the goal, so the incident was not revised by the VAR.”
