Aston Villa Midfender John McGinn has hit the spending rules of the Premier League, of which he thinks it is unfair the club and gives the 'big six' an advantage
John McGinn has criticized the Premier League spending rules, with the argument that they hinder Aston Villa and give the 'Big Six' an unfair advantage.
This summer, the owners of the club, V Sports, are unable to strengthen the Unai Emery team in an attempt to secure another Champions League finish. Villa has two routes to Uefa's Elite Club competition next season: through their competition position and the Europa League, for which they qualified after completing the sixth previous term.
Villa brought only two players this summer – one of whom could be lent: Zepiqueno Redmond, who came to a free transfer at the beginning of last month. Goalkeeper Marco Bizot has been the only other addition from Stade Brest to replace Robin Olsen.
As a result of being in Europe, Villa must also adhere to the Squad's Squad's Squad Rules this summer, which limit the expenditure for wages in relation to the income of a club.
Villa narrowly missed a return to the Champions League on the last day of last season after a 2-0 defeat against Manchester United, but the result was infected by a mistake by referee Thomas Bramall.
He blew his whistle when Morgan Rogers won Altay Bayindir's ball before placing him in the back of the net, which means that VAR could not destroy the decision.
At that time in the game, Villa was already in the top five because Newcastle lost to Everton, so even a draw would have been enough to cross the border.
“This year there will be a touch of jealousy at the Champions League, but our goal is to go as far as we can in the Europa League, try to return to the Champions League, which does not only help the club for the following season and goes ahead for many years,” McGinn to Birmingham Live told Birmingham Live.
“We have seen the impact it has now. I don't know any details about that, but you don't have to be smart to realize that if you want to compete with the big boys, there are rules that are virtually unfair when you ask me.
“We have owners who want to invest in the team and spend it on the club, but they can't do it. It's hard to see. The rules are similar to many of the clubs.”
Despite his aversion to the rules, McGinn believes that they can unite Villa this season. “I think so [being at a disadvantage] everyone, the manager and the players, unites, “he said.
“It is the same for every supporter that they want a new toy. If you don't have them in the summer, you think:” Oh, where are they. “But then you realize that things are going really well here.
“We have just signed Bouba [Kamara] With a new long -term contract, and he is one of the best midfielders in Europe. We have held a number of major players. It is not all downfall and gloom. We are positive in the new season and make it a special one.
“Since the manager arrived, we have achieved something that we have never done before. He is just as motivated as we do to do the same.”
