Atalanta 2-1 Roma: Late Sulemana strike seals Champions League qualification

Ibrahim Sulemana came from the bank to score a 76th minute winner when Atalanta Champions League qualification secured with a 2-1 home victory on Roma in Serie A on Monday.

Match report

After nine minutes in the front, breathola lookman put the Ketelaere offload of Charles de Ketelaere after nine minutes before he shoots in the far corner.

Bryan Cristante, however, is a highlight for the visitors after half an hour with a smooth header from the wonderful left center of Matias Soule.

Sulemana stepped up as the deceased hero, racing on a loose ball outside the area before he arrested a low strike in the left corner for his first and decisive, Serie A-target.

The victory leaves Atalanta, who fell behind in the title race, third at 71 points and a seven -point pillow over the fourth placed Juventus.

Lazio is in the fifth with two more games to play, while Roma is sixth with 63 points after a potentially decisive result in the European race.

Data Debrief: Roma's Bergamo -Struggings continue

Atalanta had only won eight points of their nine Home League matches in 2025 (on average 0.9 per match), recording one win and five draw, but ended that bad run with an impressive attacking show here.

They gathered 2,4 expected goals for Roma's lean 0.81, although Gian Piero Gasperini may have wanted more from his side, who found the target only with three of the 16 attempts.

Regardless of their finish, Atalanta has scored 101 goals this season in all competitions, with triple figures for the fifth time, after 2023-24 (106), 2020-21 (111), 2019-20 (116) and 2018-19 (103).

It also ended a remarkable series for Roma, which so far had been unbeaten in their 16 games in the second half of the season (W12 D4), before Sulemana slapped their top-four hope.

However, this result could have been expected, since Roma extended to five losses in their last six road races (W1) against Atalanta in the Serie A.
