Atalanta can dream of Scudetto Glory after the thrashing of Juventus with 4-0 to move within three points of Serie A-leaders Inter, coach Gian Piero Gasperini believes.
Atalanta produced an excellent version to claim the victory in the Allianz Stadium and to move a maximum of 58 points, with a huge home collision with Inter in the Diary for Sunday.
Mateo Retegui, Marten de Roon, Davide Zappacosta and breathola-lookman all scored when La Dea has been the toughest home defeat of Juventus since October 1967 and 4-0 derby loss for Torino.
It was the first time in their history that Atalanta had scored four goals in a league match against the Bianconeri, whether she was beaten on the road with at least two goals.
Gasperini told reporters after the competition that the result could be the catalyst for something special.
“We should never stop dreaming. We can say that it is impossible, but if you believe enough, things can become possible,” Gasperini said.
“We know that Inter and Napoli are two excellent teams, we have lost our last seven in a row against Inter, but that can also be a signal.
“We had never reached this phase of the season in the running for the first place, so you never know.”
Despite Sunday's victory, the OPTA -SUPERCOMPUTER Atalanta only gives a 6.3% chance to become Italian champions for the first time in their history.
Napoli has a 26.5% chance of winning their fourth scudetto, with inter management of the trophy in 66.9% of season simulations.
Juventus had won five consecutive league matches before he was confronted with the men of Gaskerini, while they were unbeaten in 21 Thuis Series A matches since February 2024 (10 victories, 11 draws).
“The result speaks for itself, for us it is a sensational result. It is difficult to introduce such a victory on the eve of the game, given the winning series of Juventus,” Gaskerini said.
“It was an almost perfect performance, because we missed a few too many goals. Today we played a great game.”
Gasperini also praised Spits -lookman for scoring his 13th Serie A -target of the campaign, weeks after the duo became engaged in a public spit.
Gasperini called Lookman “one of the worst penalty customers I have ever seen” after the exit of Atalanta Champions League by Club Brugge, in reactions that the Nigerian described as disrespectful, which gave rise to a potential transfer.
“People may have different views. Lookman became a fantastic player when he thought more about the team,” said Gaskerini.
“He made Atalanta great and Atalanta made him big. I am convinced that he will eventually wear the captain's bracelet, so he will have Atalanta on his skin.”
