Athletic Club star delights fans with response to Barcelona transfer question

Athletic Club and Barcelona have certainly endured tense relationships in recent years, and the chance for Los Leones to get one about the Catalan giants is now received with open arms. Midfield star Mikel Jauregizar's response to a hypothetical move to Barcelona went well with Athleticzales.

In recent years, athletic fans rained monopoly costs during a match against the Blaugrana as a protest against Barcelona's relationship with ex-Vice president of the Referee Committee Jose Maria Enriquez Negreira. Since then, Barcelona has tried twice to pry Starman Nico Williams from Bilbao, who shot short on both occasions.

During an Athletic press conference, Jauregizar was asked what he would say Barcelona was to dive for him as they did with Williams. His blunt reaction was well received in the Basque Country and simply said: “No.”

Jauregizar is currently contraction with Athletic until 2031 and has signed a six -year -old deal with Los Leones. Liverpool showed some interest in him earlier this year, but his new deal contains no release clause.

'[It’s] A dream come true. The fact that the club puts such a strong confidence in me makes me very proud. That shows how proud we are and how much we want to play for Athletic and in this project, “he said Diario ALS.

Williams enjoyed a memorable return to action on San Mames last Sunday, roared by the fans as he scored and gave two assists in a 3-2 victory over Seville. He will be the face of the team in Bilbao, while Jauregizar has been set behind him for his first season as a de facto starter.

The 21-year-old scored last season against Manchester United in the semi-final of the Europa League and became one of the most difficult midfielders in Spain to play against. He was also involved in the Spanish under-21 side in the euro last summer as a starting option for Santi Denia.
