Atletico Madrid -defender Reinildo Mandava has had a difficult time in the Spanish capital and sustained a cruciate ligament injury when he played his best football. However, he is greatly appreciated by the fans in the Metropolitano and looks like he can linger a little longer.
While Javi Galan has received a starting role from Diego Simeone for a large part of the season, Mandava has succeeded in struggling that place back in recent weeks. So much was proven by Starts against Barcelona in La Liga and Real Madrid in the Champions League, where El Cholo opted defensively for a reliable presence.
However, the future of the 30-year-old has been in the air this season, where his contract ends this summer and left to Barcelona in recent months. But Diario, as saying that Reinildo is about to have his contract extended due to an automatic clause, which states that if he would reach 50% of the matches this season, it would be added to his deal for a year. Reinildo has currently participated in 27 games of the 44. But with Atletico that plays a maximum of 55 or 56 games, this sesaon – depending on the Copa del Rey -final, excluding the Club World Cup – he is only one appearance of guaranteeing 50% of the games this season.
That seems to put an end to Barcelona's interest in the 31-year-old. He would have been a vast option on a free, something that the Blaugrana could address, given uncertainty about their salary limit. However, the Mozambique International has not guaranteed its future at Atletico, whereby Los Rojiblancos reportedly prioritizes a left back in the summer transfer window. That would probably act as a boost for Atletico to continue from one of Reinildo or Galan, although it is not clear which one. Galan also has a deal until 2026.
