Atletico Madrid 4-2 Real Valladolid: Alvarez scores two penalties as Simeone’s side rally for victory

Julian Alvarez scored two penalties when Atletico Madrid came from behind to beat the bottom side Real Valladolid 4-2 in Riyadh Air Metropolitano.

Giuliano Simeone and Alexander Sorloth were also on goal for Diego Simeone's Side, who went back within three points from the second place Real Madrid, and Zeven from Laliga leaders Barcelona.

Valladolid had lost 10 of their earlier matches, but took a surprising lead in the 21st minute. Mamadou Sylla converted itself calmly from the penalty place after Clement Lenglet was punished for handball after a VAR review.

Atletico made its own fine shortly thereafter. Alvarez made no mistake after VAR ruled that Javi Sanchez had contaminated Simeone, who subsequently completed the turnaround in the 27th minute.

The visitors were again level at 56 minutes when the free kick of Sanchez Conor Gallagher blended and Jan Oblak on his way to the net.

Los Rojiblancos, however, struck twice in the last 20 minutes to get over the line.

Alvarez struck again from 12 meters after Henrique Marcos Llorente had polluted, while the replacement of Alexander Sorloth placed the close-range finish of Alexander Sorloth the game past Valladolid.

Atletico has now won 23 points by losing positions, more than any other side in the Big Five European competitions.
