Atletico Madrid has been busy for the past 24 hours, with two signing sessions and now a contract termination has been announced.
Marc Pubill was confirmed on Tuesday as an Athleti player and one day he was accompanied in Diego Simeone's Squad by David Hancko, who joins Feyenoord. But there has now been a considerable departure – not known, but in Legacy.
Atleti officially made the Saul Niguez exit on Wednesday. The 30-year-old midfielder, who has been out of grace at the Riyadhair Metropolitano in recent years, has agreed to mutually terminate his contract, has confirmed the club.
“Atlético de Madrid and Saúl ñíguez have reached an agreement for the termination of the contract of the midfielder of Elche. The home-grown player, who will take on a new professional challenge, ends his red-white career after defending our shirt in the most appearance of the club.”
Atleti President Enrique Cerezo also paid tribute to Saul, who initially came to Atleti 17 years ago.
“I thank him for his more than 15 years that our shirt defended from our academy to the first team. He arrived as a young promise to our youth academy and after more than 400 competitions, assists, goals and titles that he is already part of our history and one of our legends. Good luck for him and his family will always be in this new phase.
When leaving Atleti, Saul has now joined the Brazilian giant Flamengo. He was very close to making the switch to Trabzonspor, but earlier in the week it turned out that a move to Türkiye had been demolished. Instead, he will continue his career in South America.
